Looking for a french interpreter or translator to support your NGO's objectives?

NGOs have ambitious international agendas.

I enjoy getting to know what they're fighting for (be it the empowerment of people living with chronical illness, the development of fair road transport workers' rights, the development of policies to support women's sexual rights or the appropriate funding of malaria programs) and collaborating closely with their teams in order to taylor my interpreting performance and to produce french translations that truly serve their objectives.

Advocacy work comes with many challenges, and so does interpreting it. From conveying sensitive topics to interpreting at UN high level meetings, working with volunteers or interpreting through unreliable zoom calls, years of experience have taught me how to handle these situations with a good balance of professionalism and empathy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer interpretation between English and French regardless of the local accents ?

Large non-profit organisations tend to work with countries from all over the world, and I am used to interpreting different accents in either direction. When possible, I listen to recording of previous speeches or conversation with the same speaker or at least a similar accent as a way to get used to it. Online, it also helps to ask speakers to use a headset and try and find a quiet space.

Can you translate documents as well as providing interpretation?

Yes. In fact, it is recommended to use the same linguist or team of linguists within on project as it means they get to know all stake-holders and they can keep the terminology consistent.

How do you handle sensitive topics, confidentiality and technical or political content?

I remain first and foremost a professionnal interpreter. Complete confidentiality goes without saying (do read my code of conduct to find out more) and my role is to convey the original as faithfully as possible. This may mean interpreting difficult testimonies or sensitive topics, voicing hard truths or facing intimidating environments. The interpretation takes priority: I simply focus on the job.
